Think this alt is LEGIT??

I threw a stereo in my buddies car, about 2000rms, his 80 amp stock alt doesnt cut it. Hes got a lot of room under his hood, so instead of paying the $300+ for a universal alt. I told him to try a generic 1 wire alt along side his factory alt.

Found this on ebay for 60 bucks, and Im sure it would be a huge improvement to his stereo, its one wire hookup, so id just have to help fab a bracket, buy a belt, and one wire connect it to the main batt.... Its only 140 amp, but its 1/5th of the price of the mechmans ones etc

Think itll be reliable and actually make the power? The seller says it makes 70 amps @ idle, the 140 @ 2250.....

Reliability is my concern

why do it half ***, u still have to do some work for him.He might be tight on cash but might as well do it right the first time. what kinda volt drops he seeing at this time? get a ho alt and call it a day

The car is worth $500 at most, hes not spending more than $150 on an alot lol, let alone $400 for name brand HO and he only has 2000rms with both his amps, a 250+ is not needed. I wouldnt call this half assing it, hes not pulling alot of power.

He was dropping to 10.8ish last week, but we did the big 3 on the weekend, never tested how it helped votage yet, but his dimming was gone

And they dont sell HO alts for his car, Ill be copying what pioneer saturn did to his car if I get the go ahead, I work in a cnc shop so brackets will be the easy part

it will work, but u could possibly save some cash by gettin a junk yard alt. Stock chevys had a 105a and maybe bigger for the HD trucks

Its $60 and brand new, I dont think it gets much cheaper lol

Thats why I said 2 years, he does maintenance, but if something expensive broke hed scrap the car. So I wouldnt recomend buying it if it wasnt gonna last 2 years on running 20 minutes a day

Both, factory 80 amp ( i think its 80 ) and this one which is one wire, so Id just have to fab brackets, mount it parellel to the other accesory belt driven crap, and one simple wire hookup from this second alt to the battery positive.......

Sounds cake, if I didnt worship a/c, Id do this in my qx4 aswell, no room for a second alt
