I'm running 2 D6 Diamond audio 12" dual 2 ohm in a 33hz tuned slot ported box with a kicker zX1000.1 mono block amp, guessing it runs around 1150-1220 on the Birth sheet.

My subs just aren't pounding as much as I think they should be, and to be quite honest it just sounds like they're bottoming out with very low gains, not ridiculously low, but I heard from many people the D6's can take a beating (not that I'm looking to totally beat the hell out of them), but I'm trying to get some more power/dbs. Think putting them in a bigger sealed box might do some magic? They hit pretty well for the higher bass notes, but the lower end loses substantial dbs, especially in comparison to the higher. Like, significant.

Big 3? Anything? New speakers? Amp? I have a Kinetik 600 battery I gotta hook up still, was gonna hook it up till all my distribution blocks and shit got stolen along with my gear (got the gear back minus the fuses/distro block)

Is the box a prefab? What's it tuned to? My guess is, the box is tuned way too high and that's why your losing low end.

Also set your gains the correct way, with a DMM.

Box was made prefab by a local shop, tuned to 33hz (I think I mentioned that in the OP, ya might have just missed it).
My gains were set by ear though, but I pretty much put my head unit up to the max volume I ever listen to them at, then adjusted my gain till there was distortion, cut it down a bit till the distortion wasn't there. Will look into a DMM.

Then again, my box isn't in the same spot like it used to be, wedged in between the wheel wells of the car, probably making direct contact with the frame. I think I might just need more powerful speakers? Any comments on the abilities of the D6's?

Set your gains properly, and if you have the box information, post it up. What shop built it?
Bought it from Car Stereo One out here, no exact specs on the box, but buying/building a new box is in my future, probably would like to go sealed with a bigger box. It's pretty much typical size, honestly if I had to say it's 13-14 tall by 18-20 deep, somewhere in there, since I remember my trunk dimensions. We originally attempted at building a 14 tall 24 wide by 26 deep but some people grew impatient and ended up making bad cuts to the MDF.

Don't think I'll have access to a DMM anytime soon though, either.

I figured as much...never actually been into one of their shops, but they seem like the typical "Don't know my *** from a hole in the ground" type of shop. (I live in Toledo if you didn't catch on to that yet)

As far as the box, we would need exact dimensions for everything, including the port. But I'd still be willing to bet it's not tuned correctly. You could try modifying the tuning with polyfil, that may help you out a bit.

Also, DMM's cost like 5$ at walmart, or like 2$ at Harbor Freight. Go buy one.

Setting gains with a DMM is likely to have him use less power than he already is if anything. He's already bottoming out too so more power isn't going to help in the slightest. If he wants more low end and less bottoming out he needs to tune lower, and probably get a bigger box while he's at it.

Anyway gain setting isn't rocket science. If you use a 0db tone at the highest volume you listen with, your only going to get maybe 1/4 to 1/2 your amps maximum power at full tilt on most music. Once you use lesser recorded tones or a lower than normal volume level as reference to gain overhead, you back to a shot in the dark again when you are basically approximating music. A little bit of clipping isn't a problem on transients and if your clipping the hell out of your amps for more output, you built the wrong system anyway.

I didn't say setting his gains with a DMM would fix his problem //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Yeah, I think I talked to you on here before cause for some reason I thought you were in Toledo too, I usually tend to avoid shops like TAS or CS1, they've both lost the interest in selling car audio, and it's always upsell at ridiculous prices.

Been trying to find some -6db Test Tones, but no luck yet.

meh, I just use normal 0db tones

I don't know what to tell you man...all I can say is, it sounds like you need a new enclosure. Have someone on here design it for you, then build it. It's not hard.
I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
