Yeah, maybe the string on the inside is tangled up - that wouldn't have made it just shut off though. You can only pull the string out about eight inches, so it makes me think that it's seized or something.

Oh, and I'll tell you this right now. I'll never purchase a tie that isn't already made up. I've been sitting here in front of the computer with those online tutorials and a nice silk tie.
