No. I wouldn't physically cease to exist.

Would I be unbearably miserable and unhappy for a very long time and at first feel like I had been horse-kicked in the back of the head?

Yup.

When I proposed to my wife I told her the main reason for my doing so was a complete inability to daydream about my life 20,30,50 years from now and her not be a part of that.

So - I decided that she wouldn't be.

But - an emotion is an incredibly illogical entity. The one has nothing to do with the other.
