How many calls you guys get after all the wind we got down here knocked out more than a few customers' power, Mike?

Our Public Service Commisioner, Foster Cambell, has vowed to make AEP a target.

He's an idiot and if you'd like a glaring example of that idiocy I'd be happy to share the story but that's what he's saying on TV anyway...

no clue, i've not been at work since friday around 6:00 cst. he can vow to make whoever he wants a target, but we can only do what the law allows so unless he is going to get the laws changed, he's out of luck.

Alrighty, springy...

Long before Mr Cambell was the Public Service Commissioner ~ iirc he was still a senator in the Louisiana Senate at the time ~ for the state of Louisiana he was traveling down Interstate 49. At the time, I-49 was still incomplete and when you came across the city of Alexandria you had to get off of the interstate and travel surface roads from one side of the city to the other to pick the interstate back up if you were continuing along its course.

One of the overpasses that was still under construction was very clearly marked/barricaded/whatever as being as yet incomplete but Mr Cambell, in his infinite (lack of) wisdom one evening while having had a few too many drinks decided that he, or possibly his vehicle, could fly and managed to drive through several banks of orange construction barrels, about a half-dozen barricades, etc etc and drove smooth off of the end on the incomplete bridge and consequently he and his vehicle fell to the road surface below. He managed to live through the ordeal but one of the permanent side-effects of his lunacy was that he lost one of his eyes. (I think due to broken glass flying about when his car made contact with the road after falling)

As a result I was gifted with the dubious honor of meeting Mr Cambell in person when he made his way up to my hometown to meet with one of the most gifted eye prosthetic makers in the country who just so happens to be the same fella who made mine (there are less than 200 practitioners of this art...and don't be fooled, it is an art...in the entire country)

Like all good politicians he was going around talking to all the people present for appointments that day, giving out the ole "glad hand," talking a good game. When he came up to where my parents and I were sitting (I was like 13 or so at the time, I think?) he looked me directly in the face and asked, "Young man? Do you know who I am?"

Being the ever-direct person that my father raised me to be I looked him right in the eye and replied, "Yes sir, you're that drunk senator who drove off the end of the freeway!"

My mother was mortified but Dad thought it was one of the funniest things he had ever witnessed. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Mike ~ for once, I hate to admit, Cambell has this one right. At least in our area AEP has been really slacking in regards to getting McCoy's and Asphlund (sp? on the latter of those two) to keep the trees cleared away from power lines.

The tree services can only make do with the budget they're allowed by the utility companies they are contracted to and obviously, at least in this area, AEP has truly dropped the ball.

oh my god, you have some cojones my friend. that is hilarious. my mom's cousin's husband has a glass eye, whenever we go out to dinner he always taps on it with his fork and freaks people out.

lol..kids say the darndest things....

My uncle has a glass eye(got it from Veitnam(sp) ) kinda creppy cause he just pops it out when ever he wants to.

Prosthetic eyes haven't been made out of glass in about three decades //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif (this is an area where I have a bit of expertise being on my fourth one)

The best trick I ever came up with was to go to a bar, find the drunkest person in the bar, and bet them $50 I can pull my eye out of my head without crying out or even so much as flinching.

In my early 20s I drank on other people's money many a night...
