THE Thread

I was over at my folks' house the other day and Dad demanded that I get my old cassette cases out of the closet of what used to be my room (you know, those cases that hold 30 tapes in their boxes?) Anyway...there was 5 of those for a total of 150 old cassettes....some bought, some dubbed.

OMG @ some of the absolute shit I used to listen to! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

So, in the spirit of some old-school jams I redid my uber-ghetto setup in my bedroom and took the KDC-X679 out of line and replaced it with the last cassette receiver I ever bought myself, a KRC-608. Not an eXcelon but still a durn nice tape deck as far as such things go. In keeping with this 'days of yesteryear' theme I could wish that I still had one of the dual-shaft decks I ran back in the day but that's neither here nor there...

So I've got this tape deck running (after several minutes of cursing at myself for temporarily not being able to remember the security code I set for the dang thing when I originally bought it.....who knew after several years in storage that code would still be intact within the confines of the deck's circuitry?!?) and hooked up the old Orion amp I recently bought which is now powering a set of Pioneer TS-X20 (I think) 3-way surface mount speaker boxes.

Some of the dubbed tapes in these cases date back to '88, '87, and earlier //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I was pretty anal about using really good blanks back in the day so all of the ones I have tested thus far still play just fine, strangely. I guess those Maxell Type IV metal blanks that cost me like $3 or $4 each way back when were a decent investment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I've got much stuff on tape that I never bothered to get on disc.

Some of this older stuff I wish I did have on disc now that I've started listening to it again.

Some of it I don't care that I have at all and it may go in the trash right alongside yours, Beat //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
