So with the gains, what if you KNOW you're amp puts out more than rated because of car voltage of 14.0? Should I take a conservative guess at the actual output?

Ok when setting gains, you use "rated power" to predict teh desired voltage out of the amp.

Well I know my amp will put out more as it is rated at 12.4v and the car runs at 14.0v. So should I take a guess that it's putting out say, 20 more watt?

When you set your gain you dont need to know the wattage of the amp at all.

Depending on how conservative it's rated, you could be putting out much more than an extra 20W...
