THE Thread

lol, we met around 6 months ago through my sister (her best friend), we were only together about a month and then I wanted to put my career first so I moved from minneapolis to phoenix for school. I graduate in at the end of august and we're getting an apartment together in Chicago. You should see my phone bill though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Oh well, it's worth it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Try international phone calls 7 days a week and see if your bill bothers you so much anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Because she lives in Australia. This would be due to the fact that she was born there, raised there, has never been in any other country but there. As a matter of fact - of the handful of states that are in Australia she has only ever been to two of them and the second one (outside of the one where she was born) came when I took my first trip to Australia in 2001 and we took a bit of a road trip to Melbourne.
so what's happening now? Are one of you moving so you can be together?

would you mind editing your post to take the pic out though? I don't think she would appreciate her pic posted on here lol. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Talk about a long distance relationship!!
Yup - and the 14 hour stretch in between LA and Sydney (flight-wise) seemingly takes 2 months to accomplish.

So she has never been to the States before?
Nope.

How do you keep things going?
I cannot begin to tell you how madly in love with this woman I am ~ it's simply indescribable. Being that head over heels about someone creates the absence of a choice. I cannot envision my life without her deeply involved in it (and I have no doubts she is just as serious about it as I am or else we'd have not gotten this far) so we just do it ~ dayto day and month to month until the Australian Dept of Immigration approves my application to become a permanent resident. Once that occurs I'll be moving there permenently.

Are you actually married, or just 'committed'? Wow..
We got married Oct 15, 2005 ~ just a few months ago ~ in a small ceremony in Willunga, South Australia. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

whoa lol. Whats that cost a minute?
We're on a plan through her local phone company that allows her to call me for stretches up to three hours for $15AUD. After that 180th minute though the rates go through the roof. Solution: At 175 minutes hang up and call back! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Does that not help to speed up the paperwork? I can't see how you could be denied.. When do you plan on making the move?

Australia, seemingly, is one of the hardest indutrialized countriesto gain residency of. They are at a bit of a premium for usable living space. Nobody wants to live in the interior where it is nothing but desert and stays hot as hell except the Aboriginals. As a result everyone lives on the coasts and it's a bit crowded. So - becoming a legal resident of Oz if you weren't born there is a bit of an aggravating and time-consuming process. Being married doesn't make a bit of difference and it doesn't in the US anymore either.

When do you plan on making the move?
As soon as my application gets completely processed and *knock on wood* approved. The money is in the bank for the plane ticket and within a week of getting that approval I'll be buying a ONE WAY ticket to the wife. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

what are you gonna do about all yout stuff, and your house, if you live in one of those lol?

If I had even half the money I have invested in this relationship given to me as a lump sum I'd be pretty flush....
Years worth of overseas phone calls (we weren't always on the supa-cheapie plan ~ that took awhile to source out) 3 roundtrip plane fares from Louisiana to Australia, a wedding, various shipping costs on Bdays, Xmas, etc etc....I cannot even begin to tell you...
