Bob's Your Uncle = something like "And There You Have It!" such as in...If you want to hear this song then you turn on the stereo, insert a CD, turn the volume knob clockwise a bit and Bob's Your Uncle!
I'm sure if I bothered I oculd remember quite a few but the ole brain is a bit muddled on painkillers right now...
One thing I noticed not long after my wife and I first started talking online, before I ever went over to Oz the first time in '01....Aussies abbreviate everything when they talk! And most long-ish words that are shortened will end in a long 'E' sound...
Example:
Christmas Presents would get shortened to Chrissie Pressies.
But then not all words that get shortened will end in that sound....afternoon is normally said as arvo...as in What are you doing this arvo?
I don't know - back then I thought I would never get used to the way she talks but I suppose she likely thought the same about me ~ I have a very distinguishable Southern accent. No doubt that I was born south of the Mason-Dixon as soon as I open my mouth and speak! But ~ at this stage in the game it seems like I have been listening to her all my life....and strangely, I'm not tired of it yet. In my humble opinion the Aussie accent, when it's natural and not faked by an actress or whatever, is incredibly sexy.
