If i have an amp pushing my speakers and when i turn my gain up about 3/4 and it distorits. Is the only possible reason it would do this is because i'm pushing more then the RMS or does high gains cause distortion?

 
There not blown, if i got some components instead of the coaxils would i be able to push them harder with no distortion or are the speakers always going to get a clipped singal at 3/4 gain.

Thank you. I'm in the process of regrounding my head unit as we speak. Trying to get rid of that alternator whine. Should 18guage be an ok ground size for the H/U?
