Not that I've noticed. I've used it on drywall, wallboard, and some other things around the house(got it as a gift, can't really use it in my line of work)and it goes right back on the charger when I'm done. You have to have a steady hand with it though, because it will wander around. I got a second battery with it too, it was bought back when lowes had them on sale with a free battery.
