the snailshell thread

well i have heard alot of people using snailshell boxes and was curious about them. so i search this forum and really didnt find what i was looking for. the closet thread was this

i was just wondering the basics; pros? cons? the theory behind the box and how it works? do all drivers benefit from this?

some think they are the best thing since sliced bread. Others not so much. you need to hear the same sub in the same size ported and in the same size snail shell with the same power in the exact same car then go from there otherwise youll never really know

they're great for home audio, and can achieve deep bass from small drivers.....

but aren't the boxes huge?

plus, the 'punch' most people want from a system is created by the displacement of the speaker itself, unless you listen to nothing but rap, or test tones, it's probably a waste of space, you'd probably be better off using the space the box would take up with a bigger driver and a regular slot ported box
