the shit wont stay sealed

i cant fathom making a box without screws.
Nails work just as good. Fasteners are only there to hold it until the glue dries.

In fact, I'd say nails are probably better since you're able to get closer to the edge without splitting and they don't squeeze all the glue out of the gap like screws do when tightened down.

Liquid Nails.
Clamp it, let it dry, then screw it together. lol, you coulda run over my first boxes with a monster truck and they wouldve held up. I put a 2.5" drywall screw every 1.5 inches on the box. Used more liquid nails than you could shake a stick at. But I sold it to a friend and it got stolen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif too bad construction wont prevent that.
No. Wood glue (titebond or ProBond). Then clamp it, and use screws half that length every four inches. Don't be dainty with it, but don't overload it. And also don't recommend liquid nails over wood glue as it's not better and is more expensive.

liq nails with a caulk gun is the way i roll, with a screw every 5 or 6 inches, and the wayit squeezes al the liq nails out hen you use screws can be a good thing.

all you gotta do is predrill and you dont hae to worry about splitting.

Wood glue is deffinately the way to go...no need for screws or nails, or anything of the sort.

When you've using glue though, be sure to clamp it. Just letting two pieces sit together may not provide enough force for the chemical bond to form, and instead you'll have a layer of glue between two slabs of wood which is quite easy to break, and appears to be what happened to you.

Clean cuts, wash off the wood (NOT with water, just wipe them off), glue, clamp, wait >30 minutes, move on to the next part of the box, continue, let dry for ~24 hours, then test.

I'll send you some of my local woodshop's glue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's a mix of titebond II and CA glue and something else. It has the strength of woodglue, but dries like a cyano glue (not in seconds, but like 10 minutes).

Dirt agrees... I first size my joints with a thin film of glue, run my finger acrossed it until it smooths out well, and then put the pieces together. I then take them back apart and the glue has mostly absorbed into the wood... Then I put a good thick bead of glue on the joint.... And staple it with my Senco stapler. Typically use 1 1/4" staples This way is the fastest. I also use dado grooves allot.. Sometimes I overcut the lengths of the top/bottom/front/back and flush trim to the sides to eliminate allot of sanding. Holes cut with Jasper circle jig on my Freud plunge router.... By the time I am done with the carpeting... paint... laminate... what ever is done the glue is well dry and box is ready for its subs mounted and played

biskit joiner and wood glue ftw
biscuits work well and provide an extremely strong joint... especially when you are able to double them up. But it still doesnt hold like fasteners do when you are flipping the box arround on its sides and on faces. Still requires clamps.... But still works well. I like to get through the build as quickly as possible. Speed never means that you ahve to sacrifice quality... just find a more efficient way to do a good job fast.
