the power.

OK assume that a 12" Rl-p is in a vented enclosure with an amplifier that will not clip. How much power will the Rl-p be able to take all day without any problems occuring? I know the manufacturer says 500wRMS, but I'm thinking this baby can do more.

Probably close to 1000 watts but I would be careful. Look to see if the sub is reaching its mechanical limits or making any "extra" noise. But remember just because the sub is not sounding stressed does not mean the coil isn't buning up or that you are not causing damage. Honestly I would not give it more than 800 watts or so. There are probably ppl on here that have givin it 1500 watts with no problem but eventully it will catch up to you.

....and smelling something odd is ALWAYS a bad sign. For short periods of time 1000+ should be okay, assuming you're not pushing the sub past its mechanical limits. Heat is the killer though, so after you burp it or what not, make sure to let it cool.
