15" SX and 15" Mag D2

I will be running 1000-1200w RMS in a 3.5ft^3 enclosure with dual 4" round ports tuned to 32-34hz.

My goal is to maintain about a 60/40 (spl/sq) ratio.

I have heard the SX, but not the Mag. What would you choose and why, or would you recommend a different sub?

Thanks for your input and opinions.

Ive never heard a 15SX or a 15 mag I've heard 12 SX though and I'll be sure to leat you know on my mag's ina say two days //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif . I cant really give a distinct recommendation yet but I'll have to choose mag's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Shinobi, keep me posted. jntar, I read your review on ss and have been in touch with denim. That's one of the reasons I can't decide which one.

To add to my goal, I want to get louder then my Brahma MkI/II 15. I am willing to lose some of the SQ, but not all of it.

I have a max of 3.5cubes that I can fit and still make use of teh trunk. I had a box with 2 SE 12's ported and although it sounded great and pounded pretty good, it took up my whole trunk. I have owned a Brahma before this one, but I kinda want to try something new. Ruckus wants a Brahma so I might sell it to him, if he doesn't want it, I will keep it for a while.

I know I will lose SQ, but I have had a SX boner for a while....kinda wanna take care of it now. I have considered putting 2 15's sealed, but I would only be able to give them ~1.75 cubes each.

how about, intstead of trying to sell the brahmas, and buy a new sub with similar capabilities, why not build a correct box instead for less money, and more imporvement with the equipment that you already have?

im sure those ports are hindering the SPL of that speaker. why not give it a slot port and tune it to about 37hz with like 30sqin of port area keeping about 3cubes after displacement? im sure it would get alot louder than it currently is.

I don't have the box yet. Right now it is in an awsome sealed box made by bjfisher. It does get loud and sounds great. I just kind of want something new. I know from experience that the Brahma is a loud and amazing sounding sub. It got louder with a single 4" round port before, so I know dual ports will be louder and cleaner. I am not going for a complete spl system. My box is going to be fiberglass to fit better and look sexy in my trunk.

Going from a Brahma to an SX or Mag is a downgrade imo (definitely for the SX). The Brahma has more linear displacement potential than either of them, flatter BL curve... honestly Im not seeing the reason for change. The Brahma has potential for more output and less distortion. I think you're nuts, but maybe that's just me. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Actually both drivers are very similar (Brahma and Mag). Check the t/s specs on them. They are closer then you might think. Both are great SQL subs, both will get the job done.

My comments were mainly based on the SX (I haven't even heard a new Mag yet). But I don't believe the new Mag is BL optimized like the Brahma is, correct? This would mean the Brahma would inherantly put out less distortion, but some people find that lack of distortion to sound 'dry' and would prefer the sound of a more traditional driver (which is where things would become subjective). Not disrespecting the Mag or SX, just imo the Brahma is that good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I bet if you did a little undercover searching you would find an answer to that...

If you every get a chance to play with the new mag definatly do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
