Mets Acquire Putz In Three-Team Deal

By Tim Dierkes [December 10 at 10:17pm CST]

10:17pm: MLB.com's Jim Street confirmed the deal. The Mariners give up Putz, Green, and Reed and get Heilman, Chavez, Carp, and Gutierrez. The Indians give up Gutierrez and get Valbuena and Smith. The Mets give up Heilman, Chavez, Carp, and Smith to get Putz, Green, and Reed.

The Mets succeeded in overhauling their bullpen without giving up premium pieces. Assuming Putz and K-Rod are healthy, they'll be playing seven-inning games.

The Mariners can try Heilman the rotation, and add good outfield depth. I'm kind of lukewarm on the Indians' benefit.

omfg....the **** tigers just got rid of matt joyce
way to let great potential and an arm go....he would of competed right with cabrera for the team hr leader:verymad:
LMAO Joyce wasn't going to challenge 40 home runs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Hell he wasn't even going to be in the start rotation. He had a nice stretch but he is a late bloomer which usually doesn't translate to a lot of success, and he wasn't a high ceiling guy. Jackson is a 25 year hard throwing right hander who has the same potential as Joyce did. I'd have prefered Joyce be packaged for a reliver, but I see this as a lateral move. Jackson could be used out of the bullpen.

I want make a bet with da box king. Matt Joyce is going to get more playing time in Tampa and play a better HR park then Detroit. I will bet you $20, barring any injury, that Cabrera will hit more home runs then Joyce.

he wont compete with cabrera next year, but he WILL be another pena..with a better batting average...He's got the stroke, just give it time

also I would rather have joyce bat than sheffield anyday, and at 5% of what sheff makes

Do you even know what you are talking about? He has a big looping swing with a propensity to swing and miss. Not 300 material. Big league pitchers had him figured out. Long at his last 100 at-bats. Nothing in his minor league career indicates a 40 homer guy. He only slugged over 500 once and that was in 56 games in AAA. His next highest slugging percentage was 450 in over 120 games in AA. Never hit 20 homeruns, career 270 hitter. A solid player but you are clearly overrating him.

Ideally Joyce would've played LF and Guillen would DH. Sheffield is a great hitter when healthy. The first half of 07 he was great till his shoulder went out. If he's healthy he is worth his contract.

Indians got screwed.....Mariner got an ok deal...Mets got everything they wanted without giving up much
How did the Indians get screwed?

We got what looks like a decent relief pitcher in Joe Smith on paper and a 2nd baseman I know nothing about and gave up Franklin Gutierrez, who has really not played to the potential he has. He may flourish over in Seattle and I wish him the best. Was a good dude for his team and had some big hits with us, but we have Francisco, Sizemore and Choo, which is a good outfield with good hitters. Choo will be a lot of fun to watch this year granted he stays healthy. He was by far our best hitter in the 2nd half when they started giving him playing time. He will put up some good numbers, which is why we had no problem giving up Gutierrez.

So we got our long relief guy, closer, just need another stater and a middle infielder or corner and be good to go. Would love to get Hudson at 2B and move Peralta to 3rd and Cabrerra to SS.

I take that back...you guys got a good guy in Smith

I was thinking that Gutierrez was better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
