**The MLB Thread**

I wonder if New York should subtract the prospects and add more bench players since that is all it would've taken from Boston.
say it again longer this gets drawn out and by the time the season starts Santana will be worth probably less than what teams started offering. if i were the mets i would leave my offer as is and subtract as the season starts:laugh:and if he doesnt get moved in a trade i have a feeling it will go down as one of the all time blunders in AL history.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Not much to say. You are starting to hit bigfagtheory territory with that post
how so? every player Boston has offered the Twins would most likely START for them right out of the gate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif outside of 2 or 3 players the Twins are lucky to be a .500 ish team which they werent last year.

The Twins aren't a good team. They are rebuilding so of course they will be playing prospects. If you call top level prospects bench players, then this all a misunderstanding. In that case, Maybin and Miller were bench players.

on some teams they would be wouldnt they?

Marcus Thames = Bench player
Cameron Maybin = Top level prospect

There is a huge difference.
you are over looking a few things. Top level prospects have potential but have not done ANYTHING in the majors yet..hence why they are still in the minors. if they were that good already they would no longer be a prospect now would they?

How good are the benches of the Yanks, Red Sox, Indians, Angels hell ill even throw the Tigers in there vs other small to medium market teams starters?

From your angle to me it sounds like you think Santana should be worth half a contending team which NO PLAYER IS. MLB is'nt the NBA where 1 player can make a difference everywhere.

Let's look at the aspect of this trade. Teams trying to get him will be getting him 1 year sooner than a free agent deal but end up signing him to a free agent sized contract as they get him. So in these terms you are saying a not so good team SHOULD or WILL get a better all around contending team? Minnesota was not a contending team with Santana. Is Santana Minnesota's revenge for the Vikings Hershel Walker deal? I would say no and every day that passes Santana is worth less and less to the team that would get him after the season starts. Santana also has control WHERE he might go. Twins trade him in July they will get less they don't trade him at all they get nothing. with the $$ they save off Santana's contract what are the Twins going to get in return? They are either going to get 1 pretty good player or pull a Florida Marlin cleaning out the club house or they can turn into the midwest version of the Baltimore retirement home for former major league greats.

If someone wanted him that bad they would have already paid the price for him.

In all likelyhood Minnesota already has recieved their best deal and are just milking it to get more.

So all of your banter about what he is worth to me is that since the Tigers are not in the running for him you just want the other teams who have done better than the Tigers to give up as much as possible to offset them getting Santana //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

what minnesota wants and what they get are 2 totally different things....

Mets have the upper hand.

Yankees seem to be out...and Boston aint budging.

Santana said he'll veto any trade during the season...so its now or never.

Tigers Still Hope To Sign Miguel Cabrera To Extension

Jon Paul Morosi of the Detroit Free Press has an article up today in which he tosses around some numbers regarding a possible Miguel Cabrera contract extension. Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski admitted his desire to sign Cabrera long-term recently.

Morosi expects Cabrera to receive an $11MM contract for '08, if he doesn't sign long-term soon. Morosi calculates that if Cabrera signed right now, six years and $105MM might be a reasonable amount. That would be $11MM for '08, $14MM for '09, and $20MM per year thereafter.

Olney: Mets Backed Off On Colon

Buster Olney has a note about the Mets and Bartolo Colon in today's blog:

Heard Thursday that Colon on the verge of signing with the Mets last week, but the Mets backed off after taking a closer look at the condition of his right arm.

This jives with the info we've seen previously, that Colon hasn't topped 90 mph in the Dominican Winter League. Many teams have seen his medical reports, but he remains unsigned. On December 4th, MLB.com's Bill Ladson said the Nationals believed Colon would not accept a one-year deal.

Thank Goodness!!!!!!!!!!!
