You didn't get it...you were using walk totals from both Granderson and Ichiro in your argument of plate discipline, citing Granderson has more walks.
Vlad will also get walked more because he is a more feared hitter then either Ichiro or Granderson.
He's hitting those pitches, though. He's swinging at those pitches, because he knows he can hit them, like I said before. I wouldn't necessarily call that bad plate discipline...it's definitely not good plate discipline...but it's not bad when he hits them.
Yes he's hitting those pitches which means he is a good contact hitter.
Bad plate discipline is chasing pitches out of the strike zone. Vlad is great at making contact, but his discipline or strike zone recognition is horrendous. Also, there have probably been numerous times he has swung at ball 4, and hit a pop fly instead of taking the walk and maybe helping his team.
