**The MLB Thread**

I'm not saying that...but you can't say he's more disciplined because he had 3 more walks over 150+ games. He also had double the strikeouts, which tends to tell me that he's not as disciplined as Ichiro.
I just explained the difference in their swings. Why do you thing power hitters strike out more? They take longer swings and swing through fastballs or breaking pitches. Guys like Ichiro and Polanco who choke up and just look to throw the bat on the ball are better contact hitters. Doesn't mean they know the strike zone more then the power hitters.

So Granderson is a better disciplined hitter because.....?

Same could be said about David Ortiz. Who would you rather have, Ortiz or Ichiro in the same situation?
Ortiz and Granderson are 2 different hitters

Ortiz is proven clutch

same can be said with Jeter

but I still would go with contact //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But Ortiz is more likely to strikeout like you mentioned. So you'd still go with Ichiro over Ortiz because he is a better contact hitter?

Only way I'd go Ichiro is if the bases were loaded, tie game, 2 outs. Ichiro has a better chance of slapping something through the infield then Granderson.

I already explained it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
Where?!?!?

You talked about Granderson's swing...you didn't say how exactly he is more disciplined, save for his 3 more walks over the course of the season...

If I had time I'd look up the pitches per at-bat, and the contact to swing ratio, and how many times each player swung at pitches out of the zone. I know they have these stats but I'm pressed for time.

Well as engaging as this convo has been, I have to actually do something.

I think we can all agree bigfagtheory was accurate when he said Carl Crawford is better then Granderson will ever be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Well put the names aside, or say Granderson played in Tampa Bay, and not in Detroit...if you saw the stats, side by side-

AVG- .351 vs. .302

OBP- .396 vs. .361

BB- 49 vs. 52

K- 77 vs. 141

You'd honestly say that the second, based off the numbers, is a more disciplined hitter? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif
