He looked like he'd be a freakin' champion when he came up with the Brewers..... it never materialized in my eyes. He puts up numbers but I think they could have been much much better this far into his career.

they let shcmidt go for 4 years 47 million but sign zito to a ridiculous contract? zito is overrated. terrible move. this offseason makes me cry and i bet slammed is ready to jump off the empire state building //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
no schmidt signed a 3 year 47 million contract. a bit over 15 mil a year. the reason why the giants decided not to resign for big money is because schmidt has been injured often since 2004 and because the front office and him clashed.

but is the signing a lil crazy? maybe but from what has been going on this off season, its all relative. zito has great durability but his numbers do not project him as a staff ace. but he was the prized free agent pitcher this off season so and with the exploding market, he got a huge contract. i am a giants fan and what hurts the length of the contract. maybe if it was for like 4-5 years i could handle 18 mil a year but 7 years is a freakn long time. but i do think zito will pitch well in pitcher friendly at&t park and also playing in pitcher friendly ballparks in LA and San Diego will help as well.

No. He hasn't been injured much at all. I know you're a giants fan and want to stay optimistic about your team but Schmidt made 29 starts in '05 and 32 starts in '06. That is not how many starts an injured pitcher makes. Truth is they lost a proven starter and just signed the ranch away for a starter that is even MORE shaky and less consistent than Schmidt. Not trying to knock you or your team but they lost out on this one.

just because he made those starts doesn't mean he was healthy. he was fighting problems all year with his shoulder. look at his stats at the end of the season, he took a big fat dump. also again compare his stats in 2005, 2006 and compare to 2003, 2004. not even close. he was never the same since hurting his shoulder in late 2004. of course if i had a choice i would take schmidt but like i said he was never the same for the past 2 seasons. IMO he is not a staff ace anymore. he's just like barry zito status, just a solid 2nd starter. they both have a potential of being the staff ace. only time will tell how will pan out.

also didn't i say they signed him for WAY TOO MUCH and for WAY TOO LONG? i'm not too optimistic because this contract will hold the giants for a very long time. i called up my friend to tell him the giants signed zito but when i told him for how long he was pretty pissed off. but hey the good thing is the giants actually went out for a big FA and thats totally different from the giants of the past.

i don't understand this. on espn they are saying that voters will not vote in mcgwire, but yet they will vote in bonds. bonds has admitted to being on steroids, mcgwire has not, nor has he been caught with them. i don't get it. did mcgwire have to hit 700 homeruns for them to forget about this?
