Prior Signs With Padres

Ah, some real news. ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Padres have reached an agreement with Mark Prior. It's a one-year deal with a low $1MM base. Olney says incentives could bring the total past $3MM, which is still a very reasonable gamble. Now Prior can rebuild his value in a great pitcher's park and re-enter free agency in a year.

Prior is throwing on flat ground currently, and there's talk of mid-May. I think three solid months out of Prior would be more realistic, though. The Padres' rotation will contain two ex-Cubs, with Prior and Greg Maddux. With Jake Peavy, Chris Young, and Randy Wolf on board, the rotation is certainly impressive on paper.

Lester was not a starting pitcher through the season and if elsbery or coco goes (one or the other is a bench player as they share the same position) i wouldnt sign santana for 20 mil a season frankly he at best i bet would be no better than Boston's second best pitcher. you can also be thinking the stakes are going up but in reality the stakes will be going down as the clock come closer to striking 12. if the twins dont move him they are the "big loser"......

also besides Gagne who on boston would be a "scrub"? just because they were bostons bench players dont make them crappy they just were not day in and out players on the team.

you also cant say any trade is a good trade until the team reaps wins from it as health and performance issues are not figured in. if you go about it as just stats players have put up or are capible of putting up and THAT mattered (what they could do) the yankees would have won 7 straight world series and 8 of the last 10 lol

I don't know what you just said with your terrible grammar, but if you said Santana would be the 2nd best pitcher on Boston, you are in fact worst then bigfagtheory.
tell me how off of last year you could rate santana higher than beckett..

this should be good .......

basically since you base everything off what someone CAN do based off what they did in the past the yankees still should be the best team in baseball.

also to say a trade is a good trade you cant say until they have atleast played a majority of a season after the trade. unless you want to say a team is better without having any shown improvement in wins.....pretty simple really lol

how do you know automatically the new players will be as good as they were in florida?

you can argue about that all you want but you cant prove anything until july at the earliest.

Santana has had 4-5 Cy Young worthy seasons vs. Beckett's one. Santana has pitched over 200 innings 5 years in a row, vs. only 2 by Beckett, and in one of them posted an ERA over 5. Santana has posted ERA's under 3 4 times in his career. Santana's whip, innings, strike outs were lower then Beckett's and his ERA was only 0.06 percent higher then Beckett's.
reread the question and then answer ...the point i have been making for a long *** time your comprehension leaves a lot to be desired...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

wow he had more strike outs and a lower whip? yet he barely won over half of his games and had a higher era?hmmmstill dont see a reason for him to be ahead of beckett..lord knows time post season rolls around i know who i would rather have on the mound starting a game 1

No, your grammatical skills leave a lot to be desired. I have no idea what the hell you are asking. An aborted ***** could probably type better then you.
a higher era and fewwer quality starts and going 15-13 is better than becket? lol ? please strikeouts are that meaningful? i dont think so..how many WS rings does santana have? who has a better post season era? who has a better post season record?

I knew you would go to wins //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
Lets see the Minnesota lineup featured Castillo, Tyner, Bartlett, and Punto. Minnesota ranked 9th in BA, 12th in runs, 10th in OBP, 13th in slugging, 13th in OPS. Also do you realize how little of a difference there is between a 3.27 ERA and 3.33 ERA? Don't forget, that was Santana's worst year since his rookie year.
oh so santana might not be on a decline? again for you to say "he is better" you have to bring up past years..

Less runners on base equals less opportunities for the opponent to score runs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Was that not clear?
And why are you trying to avoid going past 2007? Is it because of Beckett's 5 ERA? The fact that he never had a single healthy season? The fact that Santana would flat out pwn Beckett? Why is collecting a 4 year track record not worthy? Do employers only look one year into your past?
yet still had a higher era?

i stayed within context of the question i asked. also if you start all of your games he cant use health as an excuse for the decline....
