I just finished a Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, cracking open a Thirsty Dog 12 Dogs of Christmas as I type this.
The Samuel Smith was the best oatmeal stout I have ever had, extremely smooth with hints of vanilla, chocolate, coffee and nuts. For those that have never heard of SS, it is one of the oldest if not THE oldest brewery in England, their oatmeal stout has been around since the Plague and it used to be fed to everyone including children because the water sources used to not be safe to drink plus it gave some much needed nutrients to people.
Thirsty Dog is a micro out of Akron, OH, their 12 Dogs of Christmas makes Great Lakes Christmas Ale taste like water. It has strong hints of nutmeg, cinnamon and honey and sort of high abv (8.3%) it has real nice warm and smooth melt in your mouth finish
I have a Troeg's Mad Elf Ale on deck, its made in PA and is a high alc (11% abv) holiday ale that is red due to the use of cherries. Very delicious. A friend of mine though it finished a little smokey when we had it on tap last night.
In the hole is a blueberry oatmeal stout by Buffalo Bill's Brewery, all I know about it is that its made in Cali.
Here are the bottles in order:
