The Gun Thread.....

2002 - you had a point with the bow, until you showed us a Glock //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Family Pic from over the weekend - new AR15 in the stable:

This past week ive ordered a Sig P229R 9mm, 1000rds of CCI Blazer Aluminum 115gr FMJ, 1000rds of Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p, and a Comp-Tac MTAC I.W.B. holster. The gun is brand new but ive been thinking about selling/trading it and getting the P229 Elite.

what kinda pistols (semi -autos) could i use that takes silencers?
Depends really, you can buy one thats ready like the HK USP .45 but you're going to pay a solid premium on it and it doesnt include the silencer. You're talking $2K +

You can just buy a handgun, get a separate (aftermarket) barrel thats a little longer and have it threaded. Some can even be ordered threaded. I would honestly check up on a gun forum of your choosing. The search button will be your ticket, Ive ran across that topic on glocktalk.com, etc. Im sure Sig forums, and the like will have info.

Dont worry, they ARE legal. Very much depends on the state you're in. So long as its not CA, NY, NJ, etc. type laws, you should be alright. Id check local laws though. A silencer in CA will get you some time. Here in AZ its legal, you have to jump through some hoops though. Same thing with fully automatic firearms, and even shortbarrel shotguns aka Sawedoffs. Gun laws are VERY precise so I wouldnt recommend trying a hand at luck.

The legal limit for most shotguns is an 18" barrel. If its measured 0.1" shorter, and you havnt jumped through those hoops, you'd better be calling your lawyer because you're in knee deep.

Just to clarify though, you're NOT supposed to use them for any type of defense situation. Thats a hole even the best lawyer will have a hard time digging you out of //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif They're fine for fun though.

so.. not really on topic, but sort of...

Im wanting to get another 1911 style gun, I currently have a llama (not too pleased with the workings of the gun, jams, misfires, inaccurate, etc) but love the size and feel of it...

are the springfields as good as they are made out to be? Dollar for Dollar of course

Dollor for Dollar, the Springfield 1911s are still expensive. They are however quite nice. Id stop by a range and rent one to see if you're satisfied with it though.

what otyher suggestions do you have?

the officers I work with all use glocks, most dont like the 1911 style .45s

this is for home defense, but mostly wasting shells...

I dont need the best of the best, just a good all arounder..

Then perhaps a Colt would suit your needs? Those are the cheapest (by cost) 1911s ive seen & they are pretty well rounded. Unless you're wanting to put the money down for something like a Kimber or the like, the Colt would be the cheapest route if you just want one to shoot. Its not too far off the Springfield 1911 A1 though. Which I might add is one sexy looking gun.

Personally I too prefer Glocks and mainly for reliability reason, the fact that they're cheap isnt bad either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The thing which im sure you'll notice if you havnt shot both is the difference in trigger pull.

Id honestly just shoot any variant 1911 you're considering and decide after that. It really depends on which one you're going to feel more comfortable with, and how its build feels to you.

The Springfield I tried at the range looked something like this:

They were however awfully proud of it and marked it at $1100. I like it, but I didnt like it THAT much //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

SA makes some very nice weapons, but they are proud of them. I wanted to buy thing thing too:

but it was marked at $2800ish. Again, I like it..A LOT. Just not THAT much.

all I would think is "nice chrome"

lol, but its still a nice looking weapon

Ive had the colt suggested as well, Im gonna try and find a local place I can rent em out @, not any in my town, unfortunately

thanks for the advice

Understandable, that too was my 1st thought when I saw the gun. It shoots about as good as it looks. I thought so anyway. Thats why its hard to suggest handguns to anyone because one person likes a certain feel, etc when the next might not. The only way to know for sure is to put your hands on it and shoot X amount of rounds.

IMHO, id rather pick up two Glocks for that price tag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif thats just me though. Or a Sig and a Glock.

Plus most 1911's are single stack - meaning if you want to take to the range/use at home - you will be refilling your mag's often.

If you are looking for shooting at the range/defense - stick with the "tupperware" - great deals going right now on Smith and Wesson M&P's - between 3 and 400 (rebates, extra mags, etc.).

The early releases struggled with quality, but the recent ones are fine.

Anti- Glock are we? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Regardless of the polymer base, they do work quite well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif As far as defense goes, for some reason the moment the word defense is mentioned my mind veers towards shotguns.

Naaaah - not anti-glock at all - the saddest day was when I had to give Pop's back his G26 because the XD was too big for him - I just think that people need to look around before they follow the sheeple and buy Glock because a Glock person said so.

For HD - you are right, a shotgun is best (short barrel) - the one I grab at night is an 870 magnum express, but as a utility blaster it is only good for hunting deer (different barrel) and bird hunting - not really great for a day at the range (unless you are trap shooting).

I have a mix (as you can see) - but right now my fancy is towards my Springfield Champion 1911 - KelTec P3AT - as my carry guns.

p.s. Tupperware = any plastic gun (including Glock)
