The Def Spiral

So I've been thinking lately that my system isn't as loud as it once was....of coarse in all actuallity it is exactly the same as before. It makes me want to make an even louder system, however I know the only reason it doesn't sound as loud is because I have compression damage in my ears from prolonged exposure to high volumes. Makes you a little nervous to consider the fact that you might go def early on in your life by keeping this hobby....but bass is an addiction and I don't honestly think I could live without it, right now anyway.

P.S. It should be interesting seeing what happens to the audio community I know, when we've all grown old. Systems didn't used to be able to achieve such high SPL levels and use as much power as nowadays. Our generation is really the first to experience 150+DBs and even have them in our daily rides. Not to mention the competition vehicles reaching near 160dbs. We're more at risk in this generation for hearing loss then those of previous audio enthusiasts.

You mean exceed 170-180 dbs right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yours is not the first generation to experience it. I still remember my old teacher at Installer Institute, who was building SPL rigs when most of you were still in diapers, telling me about the holes in his hearing from years of exposure to car audio systems. The threat is real, the consequences are real, and the damage is permanent. My hearing isnt what it use to be, I can attest to my old teacher's words of wisdom... wear hearing protection if you are going to expose yourself to 150+ db's for any prolonged or regular periods of time.

Hear me now and believe me later, this is no joke.

Words to go by right here.
