Clipping doesn't kill subs. Excessive heat does. Clipping causes no more heat than a clean signal of the same actual power of the clipped signal. I could run a fully clipped signal from a really small amp to a high power handling sub and the sub will not even shrug. The amp would surely die, but the sub will be fine.
