today i was driving home, time about 2hrs total, and i was playing the subs with the bass knob all the way down but HU settings on the normal. then i actually turned it up for about 2minutes, not even, and it got kind of smelly when i got home. so i popped the trunk, and it was pretty strong, but i felt the cones and it wasnt hot...

so im wondering if it is still the excess glue "burning off" or is it like actual VC from clipping or the many causes??

because i thought if it was clipping the cone would get hot, and this time it wasnt...

just curious

Most likely you are pushing your subs to hard. They may be coming to a halt for the span of their life, but that amp seems to be a good combo for those subs, so I am not a 100%.

You may want to take a ohm/volt meter to the sub and see if you get a good reading, do a 9v batt test, and check all your cables grounds and rca's. Just look everything over.

i doubt mags are coming to end of their life, lately i dont even push em, i just turn bass knob all the way down and play it, sounds like i got a 10 in the trunk or someting, everything still flexes.

and yea the sundowns get hot easy because they are at .5ohm....jake said at nopi nats i think they had one hot enough to fry an egg, so thats not a problem

i think the problem is solved, lee suggested check wires.

the right sub got hot, so he said check wires going to subs, took out the left, took out wires, put em back in, and it sounded much better, played it for about same time and took a drive and it didnt stink.

ill know better tomorrow on my way home from school
