Test Tones

Hey guys,

I have 1 15" Kicker CVR in a sealed enclosure, orion 1200d Amp running 1200watts at 1 ohm, 4 guage wiring, alpine headunit in an 04 explorer. I really want to know if my sub is working at its full potential and I was wondering if there was a way to do this with test tones? Im thinking that the way it works is that you play the test tone and if you cant hear anything, then your sub cant play that frequency? If so, what frequency should I be hitting? If this is not how it works, is there any other way I can see if my sub is working to its full potential, and I want a song thatll make these things hit hard and make them flex.

Mike

Well for 1, your box is sealed so its not going to hit the lows as hard as it could. Secondly, if you don't think your sub is getting full power, are you sure its wired right? And is your amp set up correctly? As far as test tones, generally speaking most people use them to set the gain on the amp...

oh... My sub hits hard. Everything is set up right, but I would like to see what frequency its hitting if thats even possible.

Are you looking for what frequency is the loudest? I don't know what you mean by "what frequency it's hitting". Are you referring to when people say something like 3 cubes tuned to 32hz or just something completely different?

If everything is set up correctly, the only frequencies your sub should not play audibly should be the frequencies higher than your crossover.

whats your box tuned to? its not going to play anything much lower then that (nor should it) My box is pretty low, tuned to 28, but i wouldnt expect it to play anything lower then 25. And im not sure where the human ear stops either..

He said its in a sealed box.

You could run a sweep and see where you system peaks at, and then port your box to that frequency.

there is no set frequency your sub has to be able play, but if you want to hear every note in every song, you would want it to go as low as the lowest note in your music basically... which could be as low as 15hz, and many songs don't even go close to that low and either do subs.

if you just look at the specs for the sub it should show what it is capable of playing...

hmm. i want to run a frequency sweep on my two twelves. i have heard some tracks that go through the frequencies and then say what frequency it is. any idea on what that track is called??

thanks.
