termlab meter question?

a friend of mine owns a termlab. we have metered my car with my setup and got 134.1 at the dash metering by db drag rules(all sealed up and 12 from the pillar and 4 from the windshield). i know my setup isn't crazy but i expected more.

anyway.....

we had a small car show the other day and used the meter in some peoples cars. one car had 9 DD 1510's in a crx in a wall(whatever the lowest model DD is) and he only got a 148 and change.

another guy had 4 3515 DD's in a hyundia accent hatch in a wall as well. and he only got a 146 and change.

both of their setups were loud as hell, i mean insanely loud. both running lots of power with lots of batteries and 2 alternators. why did they measure so low? is his termlab not calibrated correctly or something?

There's no sensitivity adjustment on the TL, so the scores on both cars should be nearly the same on every TL. How high you meter depends on how well the equipment is installed.

it seemed to be installed good. like i said both cars were crazy crazy loud. i wouldn't even sit in them. they were no joke.

Especially sealed up on the dash.

"crazy loud" is quite subjective... the meter doesn't lie...

was this on music or tones? and do your friends know their peak frequencies?

they had to be setup for daily listening not spl tuning. 148 to 150 db's for daily is freakin loud!!! My buddy had four 15's in a wall for daily and only did a 147db and i'll tell you what when you tryed to talk it made your voice sound like you were talking into a fan.

well we're talking about DD's here... if they don't cause your car to instantly explode upon metering you're doing something wrong...

for 9 tens or 4 15's i didn't think those numbers were very high. and yes they said they were both tuned in the mid thirties for daily driving. ok i guess they are ok scores then. thanks. they just both didn't seem to happy and i was thinking maybe something was wrong but nvm.
