temperature sensor?

If you want high quality but pricey, http://www.redlion.net/Products/DigitalandAnalog/DigitalPanelMeters/Temperature/CUB5TC.html That one can even trigger an output/relay/alarm, but $135.

Otherwise if you want cheap, just use something designed for a pc. Most fan controllers have temp readouts, then only hard part is extending the thermocouple wire and getting a good mount on your alt. You will need to buy special thermocouple wire (http://www.omega.com) regular wire will not work.

i have a better idea, it comes with 4 different sensor wires, i only need 1, so just take wire from there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good idea. Thermocouples work by using two different special types of wire materials, there is a voltage difference between these wires that change with temperature. So make sure you splice the wire correctly. I wouldn't use solder or a butt connector, probably just twist the wires together and use a wire nut, then electrical tape the crap out of it.

Also those thermocouple ends will be thin and fragile so be careful when trying to mount it on your alt.

yeah i know all about that, i build computers and never though of using computer stuff for audio besides comp fans //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

interesting, recently i was thinking about looking for a temp meter for my sub and amp. just to be curious and see how hot they get.

i was also considering and fabbing up a cooling system with cpu fans to help circulate air as that area is enclosed.

the option of fan control and multiple temp sensors at that low of a price seems like no harm in giving it a shot.
