You'll do fine. It's going to be a pain but in the end you're going to be happy you didn't give some a$$hole installer your hard earned money for something you could've done yourself. And there's a definite sense of pride that goes into it as well. You can stand back when you're done and pat yourself on the back.

Yeah, if the 8 gauge is for the components I definitely agree with you. Even 12 is overkill for 75w, hell I used 12g for my sub on ~1000w

I usually run 16ga for that but I am not into spending money where it isn't needed. I definitively wasn't trying to criticize the guy.

As for the wire... I bought it bulk (figured it would maybe make my life simpler not having 2 different types of wire).

I appreciate the thoughts on cost reduction though. Audio setups get pricey very fast...

There is a lot of misinformation about cables (RCA, HDMI, even VGA's). Companies are always trying to sell people rediculous cables... Currently there is a 600$ HDMI cable at Best Buy, needless to say noone in their right mind would need such a cable.

KNU has a strong following on this forum and on others forums, so I bought their mid class speaker wires.

I consulted this chart Recommended Power and Ground Cable Sizes & Speaker Wire Size and Length

for the cable sizes and went with the 8 ga based on the 300 W sub output.

Glad I got some positive feed back on this build... when I started on this project I was going to get Alpine SPS-610 and Alpine SPS-517's (with no AMP, since the guy at Best Buy didnt say it was necessary...) I will NEVER shop there for car audio again. Got some great advice on here and I think I am on the right track. phew crisis averted.
