Tell me how y'all like this new photo i took

For a photo taken with a 20D this picture is mediocre. It is very soft (lacks focus on the primary subject) and the b&w conversion does not suit. DOF (depth of field) is good. What lens are you using with that camera? It looks like the kit lens. if shot handheld, it is tricky to achieve a sharp capture with a 1/2 second exposure.

What steps did you take in CS2 to desaturate the image?
Did you read what I said? It isn't SUPPOSED to look like a 20D photo bud. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Kit lens, handheld braced on the side of the table, 55mm, and turned saturation all the way down, and gave it a shot of blur, and a bit of noise under the filter menu.

I added some white, to much:crap:??

Edit: Added more gray.

A little too abrupt for my tastes, but I still like it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Tried not to over do it, blurred the SHIT out of it, and made another layer to keep the original look. I could magnify the edges and blend it into the pick and make it look like it was never in PS...but...nah...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif .
