Tcab Back Up And Operational

his teammate hit over 150 with a single 10'' R.... that's amazing. THere's tons of people who are trying to hit 145-149 with multiple subs and can't do it....

He had a good start-off because he hit 150 with one 12. Him and his teamates did well in lanes, hyped the type-r. He could have made a lot more money if he didn't make poor business decisions. It doesn't matter than you can build a better box for less if you got magic SPL...
Yea, I understand why he was able to charge what he did. He did have all the hype. And he could have made a killing charging what he did. Your talking around 50 an hour on a 240 box. Then I couldnt figure out why people kept buying when others were calling him out.

no, it doesn't have no angles, but you can ask for bracing/angles. yeah, 240 is still high, but i had no time. Between work and school, i had such limited time to do anything. woodlawn cabinety quoted me 315 for a slot ported box and bracing
i mean, if you know someone who builds around you, i'd expect to pay around ~100, maybe more, when they're only spending 30-35tops for everything. i even see people on here charging around ~100 plus shipping for boxes. but hey, whatever floats your boat

but there wasn't too many people building boxes on the forum at the time... back in februrary/march
yeh tcab seemed to be the way to go at the time, plus all the aforementioined hype on the boxes/type-r etc. etc. they portrayed them as unwordly boxes:crazy:

I know its been said before, but why does everyone here seem to think that a box should only cost what the sheet of wood costs? Im definetly not backing up Mark here, but why does everything always go back to what he charged? Guess what you will NEVER find a shop that will build a box for a low price. If you want it done cheap, do it yourself.

Im in no way saying he should do it for material cost. I mean, he does it for a living. So yea his prices are going to be higher than someone like me, that just does it for extra money on the side. But we are talking over twice as much. So unless it takes him a whole day to build a single box, yes his prices are high. In an 8 hour day, I could almost get 3 boxes turned out. Carpet and all.

But lets be honest here, whose boxes performed better?

People aren't just paying for someone to throw 6 pieces of wood together, they are paying for the design aspect of it as well. Mark did a pretty darn good job of making boxes perform above and beyond most others boxes in terms of output (which his customers wanted).

Not many box builders can knowingly say that they can build a box for nearly any car and have it break a 150.

Ok once again EVERYONE CHARGES DIFFERENT go to any local shop and ask them to build something for less then 250 or even 300, Unless its a small sealed box, you will never get something for the $100 range. Building something for that low of a price is just lowballing yourself.

Yea, I already admitted that he did have the back ground to be able to charge highER prices. But that can only go so far I think.

I dont want to start a big shit fest here. So Im not gonna say anything else about the prices. Like its been said many times before, if he can charge that, and people are still buying, it would be stupid to lower prices.

He had one hell of a thing going for him. Its too bad he had to mess it all up. Im sort of jealous I guess, I would do just about anything to be able to build on a daily basis and make that kind of money.

i don't think what he charged was unreasonable. shops around here charge about $250~300 for a sealed box for 2 12's. he had a good thing goin', too bad he F'd it up.

That we both can agree on.

TCAB hasn't made a particle board box in a while, and of those that were made, there were 0 issues related to the material used in construction. Due to overwelming BS (lol...) MDF will be the primary material for future builds. Birch will remain an option, but not as it was previously.... keep up with the site and you'll see what i mean.

Ali1, if you have any issues with your box, email me on the email posted on tcab.com... if you are having any problems with the baffle, I can make you another one to screw over the old one. Chances are its not inherently a particle board issue... as any L7 owner will tell you, MDF, birch, pboard, whatever the material, being forced to use the same screw hole over and over will lead to problems if you take the woofer out frequently. Pboard actually holds the screws better than MDF, although if the woofers were screwed in with the screws angled toward the woof, rather than away, it would have chipped, just as mdf would have broken, and birch, well birch probably would have held together if you predrilled, otherwise it woulda split.

mike75356, your box is labeled as refunded. I do recall a paypal claim being filed, but I dont have anything here to double check... I'll have to call paypal tomorrow and see whats up. If for some odd reason it was mistakenly marked as refunded, I will take care of it.

Any loose ends will be taken care of as $ and time permits.

The pricing is what it is. Anyone charging less either builds boxes on the side, deals in volume, or builds an inferior box. The pricing was very reasonable where it was, a carpeted/aeroport/MDF/single 12 box was $190 shipped... shipping is more than what you pay UPS, and materials is more than half a sheet of MDF, and to ensure quality, sometimes a rebuild is needed...and was needed. Also factor in having to buy alot of MDF/birch/PVC at one time, It adds up quick, believe me... How much do professional cabinet makers make? How about people who lay wood flooring (les wanna chime in? lol)... or even the person that holds the sign @ construction sites... think about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The numbers dont lie... the boxes repeatedly (and still do) win competitions, and put out great SPL while still sounding pretty dam good. Very few of the builders out there can claim what I can claim... remember alot of people thought I was bs'n, then it all got backed up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Which, the shop is 1: very very cheap, think less than a box 2: needed to finish things up, garage was outta commision and 3: will greatly improve the speed and quality of future builds... will also allow for much easier install services/demo's etc etc etc... helps alot to both fix the old and bring in the new!

The boxes will not be exactly as they were before. They will improve upon a design that I came up with back in early 04, and started TCAB with. Although the aero's will likely remain an option, and all remaining orders willbe filled as they were ordered. As far as the old/upcoming design, it was a slight twist on a basic slot port, simple yet very effective. Overall results are better, but not quite the SPL of the aero's... then again, the boxes were just stupid loud to begin with, 1-2db loss is still louder than just about anything else you can buy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Newly updated... ure just gonna have to hear for yourself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. And, with the alleviation of the aero's, prices will come down a bit.

As far as me being banned... I was banned for being a "scammer", when as things have come to light... there were other issues at hand, and things are being resolved. Was never my intention to take $ and run... and thats exactly why the name isnt changing! I would like to change the name to something more marketable and better reflective of what will be going on in the shop nowadays, but that would in some eyes be running away from the problem, whether or not things got resolved. If I must be banned again, I guess thats how things go... but I'd like to be able to post here again if possible, just as a car audio enthusiast.

Also chad, thanks for starting this post, yoru a great bud... and if I can make it to meca finals and you decide to show up, please be sure to approach me and let me know who you are so we can talk man to man.
