I'm sure some of you may have seen this coming. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm selling the Sunfire 8" that I just bought for testing. I love drivers and I wanted to observe the behavior and performance that this one had to offer. I had my fun, played with it, and it was mighty impressive. It took a little over a kilowatt without any complaint and has been noted as having a power handling of 1500 watts. I had an accident with the knob on my signal generator and sent a bit more input voltage to the amplifier than was intended. The result was a tearing of the thick foam surround from over-excursion. The coil is still perfect, did not bottom or rub, and the driver is still mechanically sound although, as you can imagine, the surround offers a bit of noise from the rubbing involved. Eventually the surround will wear out and give up the ghost. I pondered buying an E8 recone and getting it back to top condition but I am not likely to make use of this driver for the home or car environment. It would just be part of the collection. Someone put this bish into service and have a little fun. Single 4ohm coil, tiny Vas and low Qts. Likes very small vented/PR enclosures and lots of powa.

Thanks, guys. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Might get buy with running a heavy beed of ca glue in their. Nice 8
The area where the foam is split is still a flex point so you would want something more flexible than CA, something like silicon or Pliobond which is a military grade rubber cement. I love that stuff.

I should mention again, the driver still works flawlessly. If you have a trunk, you will not hear the noise that the surround makes during operation but someday it will need a recone. In the meantime you could dope it up with some silicone or the plyabond to lengthen the life of it. If I can find a suitable rubber surround for this before someone buys it I will keep it.

is the voice coil / cone held in buy magntism and glue? yeah i have no idea how to recone either
The coil is suspended in the magnetic gap but it doesn't hold it there. The spider and the surround keep it centered on all axes.
