Did efficiency increase thricefold like that of other TC reconed woofers?

Perhaps an explanation is necessary.

It did increase 5dB relative to the old driver which had only 1 coil working. Both coils working would lend to a 3 to 3.5 dB increase over one coil working. So the sensitivity of the 18" MT was around 92-93dB and we pushed it up about 1 to 1.5dB beyond that by lowing the moving mass a little and increasing the compliance.

Our customer noticed a lot more output because the impedance was lower, however the new top assembly did allow for higher excursion with high compliance and just as much stability. Perhaps it was more sensitive at higher excursion levels due to the suspension. You can’t get that much travel out of 8” spiders. They were designed for subwoofers 20 years ago, and one should not be using an old frame with 8” spiders if you want more than 3” p2p (I would even dare say 2.5”). That’s why the new RE xxx and MX have new frames and the same goes for our higher excursion drives (2000 series and up) This is just common sense.

I'd buy a shirt and a banner, but I allready spent enough on getting it reconed lol.

And I doubt it will sound 3 times better (I think you are jokinga bout that one thread with the MT that got reconed by TC sounds right?), but I expect it to sound a little better at least. Even if it sounds exactly how it did before, I will be happy. It was a great sub then, and hopefully will be an even better sub once it's done!

You'll have to tell us how you like it.

soooo lemme get this straight

the mass is gone...the efficiency is up

where'd the peak go? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Xmax isn't everything.

MT's seem to be doing just fine as far as SPL awards are concerned. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Just so we're clear, the xmax did not change, the mechanical nature of the top assembly was what we changed.
