I'm about to pick up a lightning audio storm 15 quad coil. What are the specs on these? I can find specs on the axis but after some reading I understand the axis is different than the tc3000 (lightning storm). Is this true? And also these wire down to 1.4 ohm correct?

Just started a thread like that, but yes, the motors are the same and the top assemblies are different. Even between the dual 2 tc 3000 and the d2 ap axis with ti cones

Not sure if this is the exact model you have, but here's all I could dig up. hope it helps

X2.H15.V4

Nominal Impedance (ohms) 4 (1)

Voice Coil Dia.-inches (mm) 3.00 (72.6)

FS (Hz) 37

Re (ohms) 3.7

QTS 0.561

VAS - cu.ft. (liters) 1.714 (48.6)

Xmax - inches (mm) 0.98 (25)

SPL (dB @ 1w/1m) 88.3

Power Handling (RMS) 1000

Power Handling (Max) 3000

Mounting Dia. - in. (mm) 14-1/8 (358.8)

Mounting Depth - in. (mm) 9-1/2 (241.3)

Speaker Dis. - cu.ft. (liters) 0.15 (4.2)

Sealed Box Vol. (cu. ft.) 1.5 – 2.5

It's the newer x2 with the tall surround and quad coils. Thanks for the specs Ryan I think those are correct. Now what I can't understand is why a quad flatwound 8 LAYER coil is only rated at 1k Rms especially a sub with such excursion capabilities.

they take 2500 all day everyday. the axis from audiopulse had basically the same coil as all the 3hp models and it was rated at 2500rms in its brief lifespan. I think they may be rated like that because it doesnt take a whole lot of wattage to get moving since they have such a low FS and loose suspensions

well actually the fs on the LA is 37, pretty high lol. thats interesting because on all the tc versions it is in the low 20's
It's a subtle difference but if you compare the two side by side you can see the surround on the Lightning is much thicker. That and a bit more resin on the spiders makes this suspension stiffer, which drives the Vas down and the Fs up.
OP, another important difference between the Lightning line and the TC stuff is that there's no shorting ring in the motor of the LA so inductance and THD will be higher. You can throw gobs of power at any of the drivers mentioned, though.
