tattoo input (seriousness please)

My father passed away about 7 years ago, it was on his motorcycle, and he loved them.. so i had the idea to get the harley davidson bars and sheld logo on my back, and his initials in the middle, and something on the top and bottom on the iside of the shield, something the Ride On or Live Free, something like that, but i cant decide what.

I already have something like it on my shoulder but i am going to get it covered up and get this new on larger on my back since the previous one looks of shit now.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what to put in the top and bottom of the shield?

Edit:

Here is a picture of the logo just so everyone can get an idea.. his initials will be where the white is, and i need ieas on what to put where the orange is

i'll tell you this..

Think twice on the tattoo you are planning to get. It is because once you get that tattoo, if will be very very difficult to remove it. Unless you want to go through an expensive process that will take forever. Especially if its gonna be that big of a tattoo. Just make sure you will really cherish and love that tattoo and never have second thoughts. Keep creating rough drafts and get professional suggestions from tattoo artists on your design. Just remember, once its there, its permanent. It is not a $.50 cent tattoo that you can erase in a few days.

Think twice.

as long as the tattoo has a meaning for you then you should get it
I agree completely, but I would make sure that you know exactly what you want and perhaps consider getting it in a moderate size rather then your entire back. Seems like it might be better to have a fitting memorial rather then a billboard in rememberance of your dad. Just my .02

was he part of a biker group? my uncle who just died last week was in one and his nickname i guess in the group was cowboy74, so i was thinking of gettin that someday. if your dad had a nickname like that you could get that done.

We really cant tell you what to put on YOUR tattoo, especially if it has so much meaning as to represent your father's death. I myself would not put some sappy made up line such as "live long ride free" or whatever, look deeper into your father's life. There must be something more to him than motorcycles, maybe try to incororate multiple things into it...

I have one for my grandfather, he worked for Cadillac for his entire life (until retirement) and that WAS my grandfather. He drove a Caddy, had a watch with the emblem, wore shirts and hats with the emblem... Therefore I chose the Caddy logo. Since the logo is pretty self explanatory, I didnt feel the need for anything more than his name.

i have 2 tattoos myself, one on the back of my right shoulder about the size of a softball and i also have my whole left arm sleeved (inside of bicep and all) i don't regret any of my tattos and i will be getting more in the near future. those who say "be careful it will be with you for life" to me are afraid of tattoos and just can't think of anything meaningful to get(no affense)! for me tattoos are spiritual and should all have a meaning. my girl just got her whole back done with praying hands and her grandfathers birth date and passing date. a remembrance tattoo of you father to me is as spiritual as it gets and i think its a great idea. but like everyone else said look deep into who your father was, something that you and only a few people knew about him cause that will be the greatest dedication to him you could give at this time. i will be getting my neck done but i think i'm going to save it for something really special (like mom or dad passing don't mean to be a downer)

p.s. very sorry for your loss .
