my ex gf just got a 93 honda accord, and im going to help her switch out the head unit because the one thats in it is junk. She's switching from a sony (Sony 30w x4 cdx5290) to a pioneer mosfet 50w x 4 deh-p43 super tuner3. Will i be able to just take the sony out and plug in the pioneer? What will i need to do the swap? thanks!

you will have to rewire it sony and pioneer probably do nto use the same wiring harness or connector. the pioneer will come with the wiring harness it needs you will just need to solder it or crimp it to the exisitng wiring harness in the car

no, find a wiring diagram for the car and then the pioneer will also come with one, then match the wires. colors will not always match up and coudl be different from car to HU manufacturer

Make sure you don't cut the factory harness. If it already has an aftermarket HU, then it should have an adapter harness already. You should only have to switch the adapter harness to the new HU.

what he said unless the person beforehand did a hack joba nd cut off the factory one without getting an adapter

Absolutely do NOT cut the factory harness, and if the previous owner did, I'm sorry. It is the worst thing you can do when installing a head unit.

As said, it SHOULD have an adapter, but if it doesnt, you'll need to find a wiring diagram for your car and go from there.

Why doesn't he just match the wires? Sony Harness colors are the same as Pioneer correct?

All you would have to do is cut the Sony harness off leaving about 2-3 inches of the wire (From the Sony harness) on each (Factory wire). Than simply match it with the pioneer Harness? I dont see why it would not be that simple if the Sony works correctly.

And no The plug will be different Pioneer uses a Much smaller plug than sony does. If the sony is a older one. Judging by what you posted it is.

If its not cut then you have the adapter harness from stock to aftermarket. This is generic, regardless of the headunit.

You will need to remove the SONY harness that is on the back of the headunit, that attaches to the adapter harness, which plugs into the stock wiring. After that just match up the Pioneer one that comes with the radio to the adapter and you're good to go.

so if the factory wiring wasn't cut, i should be able to just unplug the sony and plug in the pioneer? the plug should be the same?
No. You have to remove the adapter harness from the Sony harness, and attach it to the pioneer harness. Then you can plug the adapter harness back into the stock harness.

Have you ever installed an HU before? It's really simple, but if you're having trouble understanding, you might want to take it to a shop.
