Sundown SAZ-1500D @ 0.5ohm

Am thinking of switching my sub configuration (need something to FIT my current box without buying or making something new) and have been looking at some 2ohm DVC subs (which would put my amp down to 0.5ohm).

Was only going to set the gains to get about 1700rms out of the amp (which should leave plenty of room at 0.5ohm) so I don't think it would over-tax the amp (yes I know it would void the warranty).

Any thoughts?

I bought one brand new, slapped it in at .5, and I have a 135 amp alt, big 3, kinetik hc800, and 1/0 all through, and if its REAL hot outside sometimes itll go into protect for a few mins. Thats about it. And If I turn the gains up too high I guess It starts clipping and it shuts off. Just be careful with it and figure out how to run it with your application!

thermal protection is why it does that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I think I have plenty of electrical to run it that way...I'm also ALWAYS hot so the A/C runs in my truck even if it's 50 outside so the cab NEVER gets very warm...Consulting Jacob (no, not the one from LOST) on this matter is probably my best bet.

The power gain is not worth it. If you can get a 1 ohm load, do it.

~300 watts gain is about 0.6 dB from 1500 -> 1800 watts - you simply won't hear it.

If you must run at 1/2 ohm your electrical setup looks solid if it's the 260-amp alt setup in your sig.

Okay thanks Jacob (yes I do have a 260amp alt - 175 @ idle...but the lack of extra volume isn't worth the chance of ruining such a nice amp)...then you need to make some 10" 4ohm DVC subs that can handle 750rms each and are under 6" mounting depth!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have something in the works but it's just not ready yet. Maybe next year!
