Ok guys ima big car audio newb i bought my first sub a while back....Alpine Type-R SWR-1242D with a Alpine MRP-M650 for the amp.....atm i have factory speakers for my 02 honda civic ex coupe and im looking for a major upgrade budget around $800....im looking for any type of speaker sets one for front and one for rear to upgrade SQ....i listen to all kinds of rock...if u can think of anything rock related i listen to it...and a little bit of techno =) so i think i covered all basis if i missed something let me know otherwise any suggestions are much appreciated

edit: my HU is a Pioneer DEH-P4800MP

$800 for speakers and amp.....ive been reading reading and reading though and i think i zeroed in on the Rainbow SLCs just for the front...because from what i gather having comps in front and back messes up SQ so i was considering the Rainbow SLCs just for the front and am unsure of the amp i dunno if this idea totally blows...or it's really awesome but if anyone could gimme some feedback and an amp suggestion it would be much appreciated

The SLC's and the Germs are nice and will serve you very well. Very good SQ.IMO The whole rear or no rear is a mixed bag on wether you should or should not. I do not prefer the rear. For Amps I like ARC, Zapco, JL, Audison, old school PPI Art stuff. There some other good ones out there to just depends on what you want to spend.

You idea is good. You are on the right track.IMO

any specifics ones that would be able to power the speakers the best ive heard some good stuff on ARC and JL? price isnt really a factor on the amp anymore since im not spending as much on the speakers

I can recommend amps. But do you want 2 channel or 4 channel? Are you going active or passive? There are some black JLs in the classifieds the guy selling them is top notch. He has a 4-Channel 450/4 and Mono 500/1 sub amp and they are very very good amps. I run a JL 300/2 in my wifes SUV and love it. The black JL's look awsome to. There is a Rainbow amp either on here on DIYmobileaudio.com, the guy is asking like 195.00 shipped I think it was 100x2. They are really nice and for the price a good deal. Just check around the classifieds it will save you some money.

List of ARC to look at:

4 Channels-KAR 600.4--XXK415-FD4150

2 Channels-KAR 400.2--XXK2100-FD2200

JL

4 Channels-450/4--300/4

2 Channels-300/2

There are some other really good amps out there in many different price ranges this is only my opinion and other people might disagree. I have had the lower end stuff before and its worth spending the money the first time.IMO Especially if you have decided to run Rainbows any way.

If this is your first step-up in a system you might want to stay passive until you understand passive. Active you would need some processing and other stuff.IMO

Hey you might want to check out that JL 450/4 on here its a good deal. The guy with it is on right now, if you are interested. I cannot remember what all Rainbow sets are bi-ampable. But if you run passive and Bi-amp it you would be very happy and you could run the 4 channel. The 4 channel would give you the option later to go active.

Cone0- See below for correct answer by Dejawiz. Or just read what I wrote if you have been up for over 24hrs and it might make some sort of sense.LOL

For a 2-way set-up:

Channel 1-Mid Bass

Channel 2-Tweeter

Channel 3&4 not being used right now but has the flexibility for growth later.

For 3-way you it would look like this:

Channel 1-Mid

Channel 2-Mid Bass

Channel 3-Tweeters

Channel 4-Rear speakers if wanted to

The set-up for a 2 channel or 4 channel amp would be the same if bi-amping. With the 4 channel you would not be using channels 3/4. Which could later be used for a sub or rear fill. Or if going 3 way set-up up front with some rear speakers. The 4 channel to me is just much more flexible. The set has to be bi-ampable in passive for this to work.

On the 450/4 you can bridge either channels 1 & 2 or 3 & 4.

Channels 1&2 stereo mode: 150 W RMS x 2 @ 1.5 ohm – 4 ohm (11 – 14.5V)

Channels 1&2 bridged mode: 300 W RMS x 1 @ 3 ohm – 8 ohm (11 – 14.5V)

Channels 3&4 stereo mode: 75 W RMS x 2 @ 1.5 ohm – 4 ohm (11 – 14.5V)

Channels 3&4 bridged mode: 150 W RMS x 1 @ 3 ohm – 8 ohm (11 – 14.5V)

So if you run channels 3&4 for Bi-amp 75w tweeters/75w mid-bass, then you can bridge channels 1&2 giving 300w to a sub.

This is just what I could come up with. IMO

You can run either set of Germs. I would run the 2-way if this is your first time in car audio. You can always add a profi kick later.

Channel 4-Rear speakers if wanted to
To biamp a component set for stereo output, all 4 channels must be used.

Channels 1 and 2 - left and right tweeters

Channels 2 and 4 - left and right midbass's

Each channel of an amp is not stereo.

Dejawiz-thanks for the correction. I was tired as hell when I wrote that and was not thinking clerly about what I was writing. You cannot run the 465.25 you have to run the 265.25.

Dejawiz-FTW
