Steer away from that...get a single 12 with a nice ported box and it will hit harder, lower, and louder than that setup. Pre-manufactured (pre-fab) boxes are garbage, and bandpass boxes are even worse...your subs will not play low at all, which is the general idea of adding bass to your car.

You can build a box yourself or someone here can do one for you...we can even provide plans if you like.

I'd recommend something like a TC sounds dB-500.

Find an amp on eBay for around $100 or so (which we could help you with if you need) and you will be louder and WAY cleaner with that single 12 than you will with those 2 crap 12's.

thanks John! yeah im not really sure what to look for at all, im only 17 so i really dont have any reculection of what any of these ohms or wiring techniques, pretty much anything, hahaha. but, i know its not much but i think im going to be in the budget of around 4-500, give or take...i know i wont get anything really good with that, but, just want to get something for now to get a little extra bump

If you're on a budget, Id go with something like AA Aresenal or Assassins and get a ported box built. Not to mention a half decent amp wire kit.

hahaha well like i said im a beginner with this kind of stuff, i know that spl is sound pressure level, but i have no idea what that means in terms of good and bad. i have a 2001 ford tarus SES. i just want to get a head unit that i can play cds on...and so i can play my zune mp3 player through it...with an aux input or something...i dont really care all that much about putting mp3's on the deck itself...and i just want something thatll get decent bump. my friends got 2 12" compvr's with a clif design amp pushing 1000watts i think in his car and im thinking i dont want much more than that...im guessing ill have about a 4-500 buget...but i think i might just wait a few months and get a few more hundred and get something ill be able to hold onto... and plus i live in upstate NY and there's about 4 feet of snow and its reaally cold so i would end up waiting to put them in during spring or something anyways.

Look into the Pioneer or Alpine head units....I'm not sure which ones have auxilary inputs, but you seem to understand that already, so pick one with one of those to hook up your mp3 player to. Even the lower line Pioneer head units are feature-rich and sound great.

With a budget of 4-500, I think you could get a head unit for around 150 or so. Then grab a pair of 12" subs or even a single 15. Comp VR's are an awesome bang for the buck subwoofer, one of the best price in my opinion for how they perform. With the money left over, perhaps a Hifonics amp for a couple hundred or so.

If we have an exact figure, I'll piece you together something you would really like. I replied here instead of PM to bump the thread for ya.
