suggestions on system with $1000 budget

ok..my son is graduating HS and is getting a 2004 Rav4 hand me down from his sister. To make the transition a little less painful a new stereo system (stock now) is the perk. The budget is $1000 and I will be doing the install (even though my last was on my 1968 Camaro back in the 80's). I've always found forums to have the best advice so I'm asking for your help. Looking for:

1. head unit (bluetooth-iphone-pandora)

2. amp-4 channel

3. 4 speakers-looks like 6 1/2 will fit front and rear and component as tweeters are separate up front

4. wiring system

5. sub-to be added at a later time so not in budget

My initial idea:

1. JVC Arsenal KW-ADV64BT

2. a. PPI Phantom 900.4

b. AQ120.4

c. Alpine MRX 65

d. Infinity KappaFour

3. Polk db6501 (front and rear)

4. unsure

I own the polk db6501's, much better can be had for the money. Look at rainbow, ID, etc. I even think soundstream sounds better.

If you buy used on these forums, you'll get much better deals. Just fyi.

I like the JVC for it's 4v outs

I think you could do better, cheaper buying used and afford the substage if you build the box yourself. /2cents

i have quite a few old school amps that will be well within your budget,that deliver some power along with some SQ too.Head unit seems to be fine,I just picked up a Kenwood KDC396 that has 3 rca oiutputs @4v ea, for a low price on AudioSavings(on Sale)and is easy to work,looks great(like $108 shipped I think),The Polk DB speakers I have/am running atm in my Honda crv up front till I do some modification,and do very nice for the money spent.They do/sound best with approx. 50rms on them with a bass cap,and scream($100 bucks for a set of 4 on ebay shipped,hard to beat for the price),Id run a min of 4ga supply wiring kit,for ampsand do the big three on the vehicle,and maybe add a small 600-800 Kinetick batt in the rear would be beneficial.RamDesigns has 0ga Big 3 kits available that he can send you/precut with measurements that you need,and you just bolt them right up,saving you time, and a bit of the tedious work involved on the connections.1 pair of good tens will be great in there/12s,I personally run @2ohms on my subs,mainly due to old school cheater amps I have/utilize.American Bass subs are grat budget subs, or Alpine TypeR will be a great choice that is within your budget that will pound for the money.build your own box to save some funds,and get the most out of the subs,verses a prefab POS box

thanks for the advice!!! I will get back to the subs later in the thread...with some research I have considered:

1. Pioneer HU AVH-P4400BH - seems to get reviews and I like the possiblity of nav upgrade

2. speakers- I like the deal on the Polk DB651 but these are two way and not component and the Rav has separate tweeter spots..so do I just go with these and bypass the stock tweeters...go with the DB651 and add /replace stock tweeters...go with component speakers..

3. Amp-still undecided- I like the value on the PP900.4 but confused on the crossover portion of the amp..I do run live sound and understand the concept but the manual is very unclear on the programing settings for this amp

4. wiring-Xscorpion great deal..I would just need to buy additional set of RCA cables and some speaker wire 14 gauge???

1. I have a pioneer avh-p4200dvd and it has the option to add nav on top of it and honestly, I wouldn't recommend it. The add-on is crazy expensive, it's better to just buy one that already has it if you want nav. Or you can buy my pioneer lol

2. Go with components...always

3. I have the p900.4, if you want to know about the xover and how it works pm me, i've figured it out lol

4. 14awg is probably good enough
