I know its my first post and i should have searched this but i didn't find the right posting but I'm currently redoing my system because of a terrible event. I was wondering what size gauge wire i should run from my battery to the amps. My first system wasn't put in by me, a shop did it and it was a "ok" job but many it seems to be wrong. Anyways I have two amps; one for voice and the other for the subs. The vocal amp is a 400W CLARION APX4240 AMP and I'll be getting a Kenwood KAC-7204 1000W for the subs. Thats a 1400W system and according to http://www.the12volt.com i should be using a 2 gauge power wire. What would you guys recommend?

That kenwood only puts out 500rms bridged, and the clarion only 90rms per channel.

You will be fine with 4 gauge, it still might be a good idea to go bigger incase you up the power sometime in the future.

sweet thanks fellows

i have another question, since i'll be using a power distribution block what guage wire should go from the distribution block to the amps?

Also before the my unfortunate event the ground wire was getting hot! it melted the plastic surrounding the ring terminal that it was crimped to...so how i solve that problem

well put the wire that your amp fits. sounds like you needed bigger wire

so, if my 4 gauge ground, melted the plastic piece to the crimp, i should be using 0 gauge fro grounding and power....if in the future i want to but more power out?

No they are saying that the connection for the ground was bad. the best way to fix that would be to run the ground back to the bat or just take a wire brush to the spot that you are grounding to to make sure it is a clean ground and there is no paint.

well i honestly think that the people who installed my system the first time messed up and now im stuck fixing their problem

and mossberg are any of your wires getting hot? and wat kinda of electrical system you using, im still using all of my OEM things
