Subwoofers sound?

how should subwoofers really hitting hard truly sound?? extremely clear with no flexing sound and just pure bass?? This might be a stupid question, but unfortunately my passion for car audio and bass is limited to just me so I have no other friends cars to listen to, to compare. I just feel like my subs are not hitting that clean when I listen to them and watch them up close from the trunk. I do not notice it as much in the car, just up close. How should they sound when they are powered clean and well??

true true, just generally really. But considering you have quality subs with a quality amp and a ported enclosure??............. My subs are 12"Infinity Perfect and amp is PPI PCX2200.

as far as for me.....as far as really clean sound the cleanest ive heard are like the w6v2

im from a kinda small town so no SQL competitions happen around here......but if u wanna talk about just purely loud....i know that better

The subs shouldn't sound like anything but the original recording. If you want a reference for that listen to it on a really good set of headphones or a really high end home stereo.

my Dayton HO. honestly on most music it sounds like i have no sub. it sounds more like i have huuuge mid-bass drivers up front playing with no HPF. it sounds very transparent, but you can still feel it when you want to.

but you can't say that i have my sub volume to low. and, it also plays flat out to 20hz (in car).

you just have to know when your distorting them.

basically everybody can distort the sounds coming from the subwoofer, you just have to know when its too loud and starting to distort and then back off from there. im not saying you cant play them loud, you just have to hear the distortion, and realize either your gain or volume is to high.

Of course with a crappy sub it's impossible to tell whether the sub is distorting because it's being overdriven or because it's a crappy sub and distortion is just its thing.
