Subwoofer: Go small & Ported or Larger and Sealed?

So I've tried to find a way to get my 1202D JBL subs to fit behind the seat of my vehicle and it's just not happening.

I have a couple questions for you more Audio endowed people;

If the air space was the same in a given enclosure...

- Would I get more bass with a single or pair of 8" subs in a ported enclosure?

- Would I get more bass with a single or pair of 10" subs in a sealed enclosure?

Most people I've talked to have pretty limited knowledge of this sort of thing. However, it seems sealed with a pair of 10" subs is what most people are going with.

I have this Logitech ported sub for my computer. It's the size of a freakin glove box but the thing pounds like crazy. I'm just thinking I must be able to get that kind of bass in my vehicle with a larger enclosure and woofer.

Thoughts?

Well this is a Ford Sport Trac. It needs to go behind the rear seats because I need to retain the ability to fold them down and use that cargo space. So it's really freaking tight back there.

can you do a single 10 or single 12 ported?
That's kind of what I'm asking. All things being equal, what combination would give me the most bass?

If I can fit a single ported 10" would that out perform a pair of 8" ported?

Doesn't a pair of 8" subs (vs a single 10") give me more cone area thus moving more air thus making more bass?

I really wish my original installer/dealer was around. The business vanished off the face of the earth. Only 3 outfits left in town. Two of them are overpriced fvckholes and the other and nearest are a bunch of idiots.

And I can't fit my JBL1202Ds behind the rear seat even without a enclosure on the **** thing. We are talking extremely limited space lol. Their depth is about 1/4" to deep. So in an enclosure it would be impossible.

If you think your Logitec speakers pound, you're going to be impressed with either setup.

Also, different drivers react differently to sealed enclosures. What subwoofers are you planning to use?

I can fit maybe a 10" sub. The 1202Ds actually float under the seat.

The major problem I have is that I need the ability to fold down the rear seats. The entire array folds down instead of forward on the new Sport Tracs. The rear seat rest comes down and the lower seat base slides forward on a "scissor" track sort of thing. Other models have the seat base flip up and then down to face the back of the front seats, then the reat seat backs fold down flat. So, when I need the seats down I have only an inch or two of space. My amps won't even fit under the seat when its in the cargo position.

My other cars a 02 sport trac, I have 2 8" l7's ported behind the seat. a good option, as they are shallow enough to fit but get pretty **** loud. I dont know what the NBS sport trac looks like behind the seats, but you should be able to port a shallow 10/12, but for me 2 8's ported was the way to go. I wouldnt of minded 2 JL 13W5's sealed though:veryhapp:
