subsonic filter

Wrong. Next guess?

My point is set it based on cone excursion not some word of mouth "tuning freq minus the cube root of the box volume in deciliters" crap. The point of the SSF is to prevent overexcursion and each sub is going to behave differently in each box. Some general "set it to X" crap is a total waste.

Set the SSF to its maximum. Set a low freq sweep on repeat and turn up the volume to the loudest you'll play it. Slowly dial down the SSF until you start getting uncomfortable with the flailing of your sub(s). Turn it back up a tiny bit and call it good.
