subsonic filter for my sub?????

I currently have an Alpine 9815...A 10" L7 solobaric with the factory ported box that is being powered by a Sony Explod d1000p5 which says 1600 w, but i know thats bull...My question is that when I purchased the sub..the dealer recommended that I get a subsonic filter which was built into a kicker crossover. I thought this guy was just trying to get another 100 bones off of me..but after reading around..I think he was right. Do i need it. What exactly does it do?

Im not sure how im running the bass...this hu is very complicated to deal with...Where could I go to fine tune it?

Im not sure what the specs on the box are..but It is the factory box from KICKER that is the hard plastic over it..not sure what its called. its an L7 10" sub and of course the box that came with it. I can use any help out there.

my hu has a MX button on the bottom left. When I have it on..the bass sounds way too loud..i believe it distorts. I Have turned this off because im afraid that itll f*** my sub. There is a T coor button that I have no idea what it does. My gain on my amp is like on 4.5. I did push in the knob like you said and put the sub w level at 13. What else can i do to make it sound better.???I just bought a subsonic filter on ebay for $40...its a kicker crossover with ss filter on it. Will this help.?

im not sure...all i have right now is my sub powered by my sony amp and thats it...when i got it installed...the dealer highly recommended a subsonic filter to protect the sub...thats all i have I think

is it supposed to be on?? I need to go look at it. I am trying to find someone to look at it just to see if they can mess with it. I know it can hit alot harder than it is now but im just gonna wait. I also need to get rid of that freaking trunk rattle...whats the best method?
