Sub dead?

My ID8 stopped working the other day. At first I figured it was the amp, but a checked with a multimeter and it seemed to have output. I wasn't getting continuity on the sub though so I pulled it from the box and narrowed it down to just one of the coils. I plan on bringing it back to the store today since it is barely a month old.

It's rated at 175W RMS, my amp can only put out 170W RMS and I never have the gains up all the way. Could I have fried it or do you think it's just a lemon? Visibly I could see nothing wrong with it, but you can't see much past the basket. Do you think they'll try to repair it or just hand me a new one?

They SHOULD just hand you a new one

Yeah, I'm getting about 3.7ohm on one coil and infinite on the other. I'm assuming either that one burned out or just developed a break somewhere in the circuit. Still can't see how I could have fried it though, from what I've heard the ID subs should be able to handle more than their rated RMS and this sub never even saw its rated power.

how big is your seald enclosure? depending on the size, it will alter the actual power handling of the sub. if the store feels it's a defect, you should get a new one.

but if the sealed enclosure is way larger than recomended, it will affect the mechanical part in the sub, not the voice coil.

i.e the CONE.

Enclosure is about a third of a cubic foot, right in the middle of their recommended volume range.

I'm going to run over to the place I bought it (Street Noyz) in an hour or so and report back here.

They handed me a new one, no questions asked. I'll double check all my amp settings in case somehow I caused this.
My guess is that it was just a lemon. Things like that happen quite often, I would check to make sure your gains are set correctly though.
