Sub and Port back or crx : Mercury cougar hatch.

I am building a box for an hdc3 15 tomorrow and it will be 4.25 after all displacements with an 8" aero tuned to 35. I know in a wide open hatch like a crx, the crx style box is reccomended. What about for a hatch with low lying glass like an eclipse or a mercury cougar.

Its going an a mercury cougar the hatch area is about 8 ft total. I want to do port and sub back but is sub up port back always better? This is for daily not spl. I want the bass to feel lower in the vehicle not over your head like some setups. Thanks for your opinion guys and plz only speak from experience not what you might guess.
