Stupid question about mounting speaker to MDF spacer

Im gonna try and get someone on here to make me a pair of MDF speaker plates so I can fit my new MLI-65s in my factory 6x8 holes.

I was thinking, would I use the screws that came with the speaker to hold the speaker to the MDF plate and to the door.

Or should I screw the speaker to the plate, and then use a separate set of screws to hold the plate to the door.

Which method is correct?

Okay, new question.

Since my current speaker screws will be too short, and some of the holes are stripped anyways.. Is there a self tapping metal screw of some sort that I could use to bore out new holes to hold the plate to the metal door?
