stolen: tv, computer, xbox etc help

My friend had his dorm room raided because he let his door unlocked and had his tv, computer, x box 360, and other random things of value stolen from his room. I was wondering if there is anything he can do. He might have an idea of who it was but since the school is huge he prob doesnt know. does he have any options if he doesnt know who it was or have any evidence or is he SOL? *i keep my dorm room locked all the time to prevent this type of thing*

because he doesnt know who took it, we doesnt really have anyone that hates him or anything he just think it was jus stolen because someone saw it or went around checking to see if any rooms were open or something. he is on a hall style and im in a suite so there are a lot more people that could have potentially taken it, all of the people on his hall, plus anyone that came onto that hall.

The first logical thought that came to my mind was contact the police and/or campus security, but then again going to ca.com is always and excellent choice.

^lol its up to him, i was jus tryin to figure out if there is anything he can do, i actually told him to do that first but i dunno if he has or not, he cant tell them much except his stuff was stolen and he has really no clue who did it. can they track that stuff at all? like if its sold or something?

Please don't tell me you guys are going to UNC... You both are complete dumbasses if you didn't report the stuff was stolen. If they find someone stealing stuff, and search their room and find other stuff that was reported stolen, they can give it back AND the guy can spend even more time in jail.

no we dont go to unc, we atually go to nc state, i know my name is a little bit off, i always wanted to go to unc my whole life untill i decided i wanted to do engineering so i went to state but in looking to transfer to rutgers next fall if i can somehow afford it, but we do not know who it is, im really not that concerned about it because my friend is really cocky and prob was runnin his mouth about his stuff, we do not know who it was, he doesnt even live in the same dorm as me.

Have him take his papers with all his pictures, serial numbers, makes and models of equipment that was stolen to authorities(campus or city). W/O that, he has no proof the stuff was his.

it wasnt my stuff that was stolen, just a guy that im friends with at school, i dont know if he went to the police or not, i came to ca.com bc im bored and i wanted to see if anyone had any advice or imput to see if there is anything he can do with the papers he has that prove ownership of it, like if they can track the items by serial number, and yes we are freshman, my major is ME, you can easily tell that he is a freshman but i dont think that most of the people i meet know that I am, I also havent had my stuff stolen because I keep my door locked all the time if Im not in the room.

He should have written down the serial numbers so if the police were to stumble upon some stuff they could identify it as his equipment.
